By Adriana Randall MPL, DA Gauteng Constituency Head – Mamelodi:
The DA will request Gauteng Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Lesetja Mothiba, to investigate serious discrepancies relating to charges laid against ANC activists by the DA in July.
The charges followed incidents of assault and vandalism by ANC activists who attacked DA leadership and activists during a community meeting aimed at addressing residents’ concerns regarding their unlawful eviction from Stoffelpark to Pienaaarspoort, Mamelodi.
However, upon following up with the MEC for Community Safety on these cases, we were told in a written response that three suspects linked to this incident had been arrested for “minor traffic offences” under the same case number.
The DA never laid charges for minor traffic offences, and this highly suspicious discrepancy warrants an immediate investigation.
The DA will not be intimidated or prevented from taking our message of hope and change to the people of Gauteng.
Underhanded tactics in undermining our democratic rights will not be tolerated.
The people of this province know that change is coming and they show this in each and every election and by-election where the DA vote grows and the ANC continues to decline.
In 2016, Gauteng has an opportunity to vote against corruption, intolerance and cronyism, and for a party which stands for transparency, clean governance and true diversity.
Will not stand by while criminal elements rob the people of this province a chance at a better life.
