ANC Official paid R700 000 to never pitch for work

By David Setjie, DA councillor at Capricorn District Municipality:

Today the DA will write to the Auditor General to probe the salary payment of more than R700 000 to the Senior Manager of Performance in the Capricorn District Municipality (CDM), John Mpe who has not pitched for work since November 2014.

Mpe was elected as the ANC Deputy Chairperson of Peter Mokaba Region in October 2014 and since then, has never pitched for work despite getting a monthly salary from the municipality.

The DA has written to the Executive Mayor of the municipality, Gilbert Kganyago to investigate the matter and the DA managed to stop his salary payment as of August 2015.

It is been alleged that since taking action against Mpe due to the pressure of the DA, Kganyago is said to be facing expulsion from the Mayoral office by the ANC.

According to the Municipal  System Act 32 of 2000, absenteeism from office without permission is regarded as leave without pay. Yet Mpe is mysteriously being paid, with no justification.

The DA’s vision is that officials and representatives in government must serve full time, according to their skills and competences.

The DA will request the Auditor General to probe this fruitless expenditure by the municipality by paying an official for staying at home and the DA will push for repayment of tax payers money.
