Crystal Park Community safety cannot be compromised due to bureaucracy

By Michele Clarke MPL, Spokesperson on Community safety:

During a recent oversight visit to the Crystal Park police station, the DA was disappointed to be maltreated by rude and disgruntled police officials purely over our political affiliation.

Oversight visits are nothing new and serve as key deliverables of Members of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.

They are strategic to ensure that public officials, including police officers, are equipped with necessary resources to carry out their functions, and to improve the safety of our communities.

Barring a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature on merit of political party affiliation, is an attack on our democratic order and a violation of the DA’s constitutional mandate to perform oversight.

To this end the DA will write to both the provincial SAPS commissioner, Lt Gen Lesetja Mothiba and community safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, to investigate the matter and to ensure that the necessary steps are taken to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
