DA welcomes arrest of Chief traffic officer

By Johni Steenkamp (MP), DA North West, Constituency Head, Maquassi Hills:

The Democratic Alliance in the North West welcomes the arrest of provincial chief traffic officer Mr Judas Mahlangu in Wolmaransstad this week.

Mahlangu who appeared in court today, is facing charges of fraud and corruption after he allegedly defrauded the Maquassi Hill Municipality of more than R540 000 in unpaid licenses and traffic fines by issuing fraudulent licenses to 39 trucks owned by Kobus Jordaan.

The DA welcomes the arrest of both men. We commend the Hawks for their efforts in eradicating corrupt and illegal activities.

I will today write to Transport MEC Gaoage Molapisi urging him to immediately institute an investigation into the Traffic Department and root out any fraudulent and corrupt activities conducted by traffic officials.

The DA will monitor the case closely and trusts that both suspects face the full might of the law.
