DA wishes SPLFA successful AGM

By Safiyia Stanfley, MPL, DA Provincial Spokesperson on Sports:

The Democratic Alliance wishes the Sol Plaatje Local Football Association a successful Annual General Meeting this weekend.

The local football association is expected to hold their annual general meeting on Sunday at the Mayibuye Centre in Galeshewe where a new team of leadership will be elected.

The new leadership team expected to be elected includes a chairperson and a deputy, a secretary and a deputy as well as a treasurer and four additional members.

The campaign for the leadership of the association has been very intense in the past weeks and we hope whoever emerges as victors will unite the association and take local football to greater heights.

We note the preparations that has gone into the meeting and that the association’s election machinery is above board through the partnership with the Independent Electoral Commission.

The DA believes the time must come that the province produces a football club that participates in the Premier Soccer League’s top tier. We need a PSL team with its base right here in the province.

However for this to come to pass we need dedicated and professional administrators and well-functioning football structures throughout the province.

The DA understands the role that sport can play in our democracy and the defining role it plays in shaping and influencing our identity – as individuals and as a country.

We also understand that sport can play a role in more practical terms, as a mechanism to uplift and empower, as an opportunity to enrich day-to-day life, as a means to healthy living and as a profession for those with the ability and talent to achieve success at the highest level.

With more than 65 club members affiliated to the association the DA’s wish is that after this meeting local football will never be same.
