Gauteng Premier commits to improve Barcelona community’s lives

By Michele Clarke MPL, DA Gauteng Constituency Head – Benoni:

Gauteng premier David Makhura has committed government to improve living conditions for residents of Barcelona, Daveyton by mid-2016.

This community was established 21 years ago, but despite mayoral visits and promises, many residents still have no access to basic services such as electricity, water and sanitation.

The DA has raised the plight of the people with premier Makhura, and in a written response to questions, the premier indicated that in collaboration with the Ekurhuleni metro, he has met with the community and that their concerns would be addressed.

This commitment is welcome news for a community which has been suffering under the yoke of poverty, crime and drug abuse, and hopes that this will kick-start further opportunities to build a prosperous for the area as a whole.

The DA will continue to monitor progress and hold the premier and Ekurhuleni to their respective timelines.
