Lithuli School under SGB hostage

By Jacques Smalle MPL, DA Limpopo Leader:

I have written to MEC for Education Ishmael Ketjepe to take back full control of Lithuli Secondary School from the School Governing Body. This follows a hostile situation by the SGB led by ANC’s Clifford Mohloana.

The DA will also ask Safety and security MEC Phokwane Mokaba to deploy public order policing at the school due to a possible volatile situation if the SGB continues with its hostile attitude.

This morning, I conducted an oversight visit to the school in my capacity as a sitting member of the provincial legislature on the Education portfolio committee, to investigate serious allegations of schooling brought to a screeching halt and non-attendance by learners as a result of lack of school infrastructure.

Mr Mohloana eventually showed up on the school premises with a group of people who all claimed to be members of the SGB. All of them were wearing ANC and SASCO regalia.

Disrespectfully, Mohloana unfairly confronted one of the school’s HOD and ordered her to get out of the school and go home.

I immediately contacted MEC Kgetjepe to intervene in the matter but he too was defied by the disrespectful Mr.  Mohloana.

It is impractical to imagine the kind of leadership under which the SGB of this school operates.

I therefore, urge MEC Kegtjepe to speedily rescue this school which is being held at ransom by a faction of the ANC. This faction is suspiciously operating under the guise of the School Governing Body.

The DA believes that SGB structures are responsible for the smooth running of schools however, there is serious causes for concern when they are become part of ANC politics.
