Snap debate on Heritage day

The following speech was delivered by Katlego Suzan Phala DA MPL, to the Limpopo Provincial Legislature on 22 September 2015 during the Snap Debate on Heritage day.

Hon MPLs

Hon MECs

Hon Premier.

Ladies and gents Good Afternoon.

Madam speaker allow me to quote the first president of a pre colonized country Dr Kwame Nkrumah “Africa is a paradox which illustrates and highlights neo-colonialism. Her earth is rich, yet the products that come from above and below the soil continue to enrich not Africans predominantly, but groups and individuals who operate to Africa’s impoverishment’

Today- years later I find his saying very relevant within the Limpopo government, led by the ANC of course, we are indeed a rich province in all spheres unluckily blessed with groups and individuals who through unlawful awarding of tenders and the unfair BEE for those connected and jobs for pals are working towards the impoverishment of our beloved province …academically, culturally, intellectually we are rich sadly the richness of this province will not enrich the people of these province predominantly so… only the few connected benefit.

Is this the kind of Heritage we want to instil in Limpopo province? Were thousands of youth are unemployed? A Heritage of no Opportunities for our people to escape the cycle of poverty by many who just live above the poverty line.

The yearly growth of social grant beneficiaries in this province is a Heritage that the DA will not applaud to, it is nothing to be proud of, but should ring a loud alarm to the provinces leadership that many of our people are dependent on social grants due to lack of  opportunities created by these government. Is this the kind of Heritage we want to leave?

A women was raped and brutally murdered in ward 32, this is an indication that indeed we are failing to keep our women safe in these province.

Are these the kind of heritage we want future generations to inherit and celebrate? A heritage filled with lack opportunities? High rate of unemployment for our youth? A Heritage failing to protect our women and youth?

Let us create a Heritage of employment, Freedom, Fairness and Opportunities not only on paper but in action too.

Thank you
