The irony of The Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business (PCB) Witness 23 October, offering to now intervene in the current concerns expressed by city businesses pertaining to the outsourced parking meter tender to Panzascore, is indeed amusing, as their silence was indeed deafening, when this project was initially launched. The reason for their silence, was that this was the scheme of the then president of the PCB, Paris Dlamini. His role in driving the current parking system and his alleged interest in Panzascore must be brought into the open. The cost to Council to roll out this project and the revenue generated, and percentage shared, must be revealed.
The challenges facing businesses are immense. Instead of assisting businesses and ensuring that job opportunities are increased, this ANC led Council, has proven once again that it places the financial interests of its comrades ahead of the interests of law abiding residents. Instead of being frugal and encoraging local businesses, Msunduzi, in partnership with privately owned Panzascore are adding more obstacles to businesses woes.
The next phase of this roll out is targeting the Northern Areas and we urge all business and residents to join us in signing our petition #PanzascoreParkingMetersMustFall, before this scheme impacts negatively on business and jobs throughout the city.
