Communities to benefit from the new Dewagendrift clinic

By Adriana Randall MPL, DA Gauteng Shadow MEC for Finance:

The communities of Jakkalsdans, Foxtrot, Wagendrif (Informal settlements Plot 79), Krokodilspruit and Perdefontein north of Pretoria are set to benefit from the new Dewagendrift Clinic and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) centre which is expected to be completed in August 2016.

The new clinic became necessary as demand has increased rapidly over the past few years with the community’s steady growth rate.

The EMS station is also being built on the same premises.

The DA welcomes the construction of this new clinic and EMS centre and we will monitor progress to make sure the project is delivered, as per the timeline promised to the community.

In a reply to a DA question, the Gauteng MEC for Health, Qedani Mahlangu, confirmed that construction is making good progress.

The reply indicates that the cost of the clinic is R41 million, not R20 million as was projected. The project is at the tender stage, and a programme of work is included. This clinic will only offer primary healthcare services, and will not have a mortuary.

The clinic will be located on Portion 79 of Farm Dewagensdrift 417-JR situated at 244 Moloto Road and is owned by the City of Tshwane.

The DA hopes that the working conditions on site will improve as we have witnessed on two occasions when conducting oversight, that water and electricity shortages have made conditions extremely difficult. I will engage with the MEC on this very matter to resolve the prolonged shortages experienced by workers.
