DA welcomes procurement of 18 new mobile clinics

By Jane Sithole, MPL, Spokesperson on Health:

The DA welcomes the Health Department’s procurement of 18 new mobile clinics which have been converted and branded and are currently awaiting delivery.

These mobile clinics will go a long way in making healthcare accessible to even the most remote parts of Mpumalanga. These mobile clinics must be delivered to their respective areas soon to alleviate long queues and improve healthcare services across the province.

The department plans to replace 35 old mobile clinics between now and 2018 and they will be distributed as follows;

  • 18 Ehlanzeni District Municipality
  • 11 Nkangala District Municipality
  • 6 Gert Sibande District Municipality

The DA believes it is high time for Health MEC, Gillion Mashego to start tackling the ailments in his department head on.  This is another step in the right direction. We will continue our oversight role to ensure the people of Mpumalanga reap the benefits and have access to proper healthcare services which will improve their quality of life.  Mashego must ensure accountability within his department and drive the turnaround strategy to avoid being placed under curatorship again.

Desperate patients, especially those in rural areas, are being unnecessarily exposed to suffering due to the lack of access to proper healthcare services. These mobile clinics must be used solely to better the lives of our citizens.

The DA will continue to fight for access of all citizens to healthcare services because we value the lives of all South Africans. The right to life is enshrined in our Constitution and we will be constant in our fight to preserve this right.
