By Khume Ramulifho MPL, DA Gauteng Shadow MEC of Education:
The Gauteng Provincial Department of Education has been aware of an unregistered primary school in Rietvalleirand, Tshwane, this past year- yet failed to close it down.
In a reply to a question by the DA, Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi indicated that the school is not registered and that a report would be compiled on the department’s findings from the investigation into the matter.
The deadline for the investigation was on 30 June 2015. This has long passed.
Schools across the country must be registered in order for the National and Provincial departments of Education to ensure there is compliance with relevant legislation and norms and standards.
It is irresponsible of the MEC not to take action and have learners placed in an alternative school, until such time that the Village Waldorf School is registered and complies with the law.
The DA will monitor the situation very closely
